Hey, Yale!

I will never forget the moment when I first met Yale.

It was a boring and tiring trip from the airport to New Haven and I hadn't recovered from jet lag yet. When I was feeling sleepy and exhausted, the bus arrived at Yale University and the scenery changed totally. Hey, what a blue sky, and what a large green! Here, I arrived, at Yale!

My friend and I got off the bus at the gate of Old Campus. The relaxing atmosphere and people who were walking casually impressed us. Will I become as relaxed as they or will I become stressed due to challenges? I had no idea. Feeling both excited and tired, we began to find the way to check in. It's quite easy to get lost at Yale because of the similar buildings. We didn't find our way until we met a volunteer wearing a summer-session's T-shirt. With her help, I went to the registration office by Yale bus and got my key to my dorm successfully. But when I returned to the check-in place, "Oh my god! Where is my luggage?!" I entirely forgot where I had placed it. Fortunately, my teacher was taking care of it. How careless I was. I finally settled down in Calhoun College.

The dormitory was the best one I had seen. Everyone could have a separate room and the common hall was shared by eight people. The facilities were convenient. After making my bed, I opened the window to let fresh air in, and there were tall green trees standing there and lovely squirrels running around. It was my first time to see squirrels. They were very sensitive to humans and when I got too close to them, they escaped away quickly. I share a room with another seven girls from different areas. We are different ages, in different skins, in different majors, but we are all friendly and it is easy to chat. We had dinner together and learned more about each other.

After dinner, there was an orientation at Calhoun Common Hall. I met more people there. The serious woman police warned us about the security and the kind counselors talked about colorful activities they had planned. The speed of their speech was so quick for me that I couldn't keep up with it and I even recorded it by iPhone.

In the evening, with all the preparation done, I was finally able sit in front of my desk. My mother at home was already in June 27th while I was still in June 26th. She was having breakfast while I was falling into sleep. But instead of feeling homesick, I felt excited. "Hey, Yale, nice to meet you and what is waiting for me tomorrow?"
